IP Addresses

Is there a model(s) that can be used to document IP Addresses for a particular server?

Re: IP Addresses

Hi Tim,

I spoke with one of our resident modeling experts regarding this issue and he has some advice/information.

Most clients do not maintain specific network addresses or specific equipment instances (i.e. serial number specific level of detail) in ProVision.

They typically maintain this information in a configuration management system (CMS).

The models of network topology and equipment in ProVision are usually a level higher – i.e., they define types of equipment at various locations and facilities.

However, you could use the equipment object to represent specific instances of each type of equipment (i.e., each unique serial number) as well as the types of equipment and define a custom property for IP address and assign it to the Equipment object to track the current addresses.

Regards,

Matt
