9.0.3.16 - ...upgrade has KILLED the ENGINE...!

We were running version 9.0.2 and recently did an upgrade on our server to 9.0.3.16.

During installation we followed ann instructions; turning off all services before installation and following instructions to the letter.

Curently our Service Engine is down and can't get up. Meanwhile the Deployment service is running fine. To make matters WORSE, adding to the frustration - when trying to start the Process Engine it fails WITHOUT giving us an error so we have no idea what is wrong.

ANYONE.... HELP!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Have you checked the Event Log (not the eLog table) on the Engine server? If you still do not find any errors there you should contact the Help Desk to assist you.

Re: 9.0.3.16 - ...upgrade has KILLED the ENGINE...!

Have you made any changes to the configuration since the original installation? Specifically changes to the Database connection for the Engine will cause unexplained failures we have noticed. All such changes need to be documented and reapplied. Since Metastorm do not document all the places the connection may be defined (as far as I can find in any case), this is doubly imperative.

No errors were in the event log.

No, configureations where made.  Our system was running perfectly and the database connections are still functional. I am using the same information to connect via SQL Developer (Oracle).

Re: 9.0.3.16 - ...upgrade has KILLED the ENGINE...!

Solution - (Assistance provided by Daniel Michael)

For some reason during the install, it changed a password in the services engine.
Reapplied the password and we received an error in the event log.

From this point it was basic trouble shooting; it installed itself based on the original information in the registry (which made sense) and with slight configurations to the registry and connection strings, everything is now up and running.

Thanks Dan and previous posts!

ADDITIONAL - When you restart the server you have to do it all again... pretty weak I know, but is what it is.

Re: 9.0.3.16 - ...upgrade has KILLED the ENGINE...!

That is a surprize, once you have modified the configration setting I would expect those to remain.

Are the credentials set back to the ones used in the install ever time you restart the server?

Its strange because the credentials are already in... i just have to re-enter them and try again and it works.
